Career Services: Internship prep in one semester

How do you prepare for and land internships? Let Career Services help you this semester.

Request an appointment with a career advisor for a mock interview—complete with feedback. Then get a power critique of your resume during two days of Resumania (Feb. 2-3), so that you are ready to rock the Spring Career Fair Feb. 4. You’ll have a polished resume in hand and, from your mock interview, you’ll know what to say to the recruiters at the career fair based on whether you’re there to learn about the company or to discover job shadowing, internship and part-time job possibilities.

January 2015

Welcome back to campus for the start of 2015! I hope you all had an exciting break. I had a chance to come back to San Antonio, visit with friends and family, and eat some Texas BBQ and Tex-Mex cuisine, all of which are woefully lacking here in southern California.

As the semester starts, there are two dates that you should be aware of – the add/drop session starts on January 7 and ends on January 22. Be sure to adjust your schedules as needed during this time period. Be in touch with your advisor if you have questions or concerns. If you think your scheduling decisions might have some impact on your financial aid package it is always best to contact the Financial Aid office on these questions.

If you have not already declared your major, you have to do so this semester. The Major Declaration & Beyond program can be helpful in guiding this decision. Dr. Tynes will speak about how to pick out your major and when to declare, and a representative from the Registrar's office will speak about the logistics of major declaration. In addition, a representative from Career Services will discuss internship opportunities. The program will be on January 21, 2015 at 7pm in Northrup 040.

I wish you all a fantastic semester full of learning and fun.

Class Marshal
