So
by now you have all settled back into your dorm rooms and caught up with the
summer activities of your friends. Hopefully, you are not yet tired of Mabee
food, but you are already no doubt missing the home cooking!
As
you start taking classes and thinking about the time each of them will require,
keep in mind that the Add/Drop deadline
is September 4. If you are concerned
about your schedule, be sure to talk with your adviser as soon as possible to
work through options and consider the consequences of making any changes.
Perhaps
the most consequential academic component of the sophomore year is declaring a
major. Sometime during this year you will declare a major, deciding which
academic pursuit best fits your strengths and your desires. This is a big
decision and you want to take some care in deciding which path to choose. There
are lots of resources to help you make this selection. You might want to go to
Career Services to discuss what majors might help position you best for the
kind of job you’d like after you graduate. Your adviser can help talk through
your options. A favorite professor is also a great resource. And be sure to
talk with upperclass students about their choices and the classes you’ll have
to take. To help get you get started, you should attend the Major Declaration Seminar on September 30 at 7 p.m. in Northup 040.
I’ll have more to say about declaring a major in later newsletters.
And
though I am off campus, I am happy to help out with anything you might need –
just send me an e-mail at sbachrach@trinity.edu.
