The cold has seemed to settle in on us,
but we know that warm and then hot weather is right around the corner.
This is a relatively quiet time of the
academic year. There are no looming deadlines, and the first set of exams is
probably still a couple of weeks away. Now is a good time to be plotting
strategy for successfully managing this semester. You should have a real good
sense now of the demands of each of your classes – when the tests and papers
are due and how much studying you will need to put into each class. You can
prioritize the demands on your own time. Think about each class and how
important it is to you. Think about your extracurricular activities – when are
the major events for these groups? How much time do you need to put into these
activities? Start budgeting time within each day for your classes.
The point of this exercise is to get
yourself into good study habits early on. Keep up with each class by spending
some study time for each class each week. This way you will never fall behind,
and when the time comes to study for the exams, you won’t have to cram and pull
any all-nighters! (And of course this is all so easy for me to say! There will
be days when your schedule will get completely blown up, and don’t worry! Just
try to stick to some plan as bet as you can.)
Try to also get out of the Trinity
bubble and see some of San Antonio. Your Trinity ID will get you into the McNay
and the San Antonio Art Museums for free any day of the week! The recently
opened Brisco Western Art Museum (while not free) is great – with collection of
spurs and artifacts from Santa Ana’s days here in San Antonio. Eat some Mexican
food on the riverwalk, have a paletta at SA Pops (just off campus on Mulberry),
hike up the hill at Friedrich
Wilderness Park next time you are at La Cantera.
Have a great February!
