April on the Trinity campus means two things: fall registration and thoughts of the end of the school year. Registration is April 13-28. You should go onto TigerPaws
and find out when your registration times is at. Then you should contact your advisor and set up an appointment to discuss your fall schedule. Keep in mind that you cannot register until your advisor has approved you! Come to this meeting prepared – that generally means you have some ideas about what classes you’d like to take and you have thought about some questions where you have concerns or are not clear about requirements. You should all (hopefully!) be
meeting with your major advisor now, and it is a good time to walk through the courses you will need to take to graduate, and get them at least mentally marked in for which semester you will be taking them. You don’t need a hard-and-fast schedule for your next two years, just a general sense of what classes to take and in what order, and especially get a sense of order if there are pre-reqs that need to be fulfilled. It’s also a good time to take stock of where you stand with regards to the common curriculum, and identify what requirements still remain to be fulfilled.
And as your thoughts start to turn towards the summer, you may have in mind taking a class or two somewhere besides at Trinity over the summer. Courses from other colleges and universities may transfer to Trinity. It is your responsibility to get these course transfers approved. It is best to get the approval prior to actually take the summer classes! Approval is granted by department chairs, so if you are planning on take say a psychology class, you will need to get the approval of the chair of the Department of Psychology. You will need to complete a course transfer request form, available from the registrar, and provide some documentation about the class – like the course description. Some department chairs will need more than just the description, like the syllabus. So, get in touch with the appropriate chair(s) as early as possible and gather all of the documentation you need. You want to get this done before you leave Trinity and definitely before enrolling for the course – you want to make sure that your money spent on the class will not be for waste, and that the course will transfer back to Trinity.
It is another gorgeous day here in Southern California and my time here is coming to an end soon as well. Graduation at the University of Redlands is mid-April, and I will be returning to Trinity near the end of May. While I will miss Redlands, I am eager to get back to Texas, and BBQ, and to see all of you again!
