Just like
that first letter in August, we need to start with “Congratulations!” You’ve
almost completed your first year. Hopefully we’ve helped you get to know your
new hometown a little better and also helped introduce you to your extended
Trinity family of alumni. Back in August
we encouraged you to remember pace, perspective and perseverance. If that
helped you, then maybe next August you can share similar advice with members of
the Class of 2018.
Along with
studying for finals and finishing papers & projects you also need to
prepare for both your departure from campus this month and your return in
August. To the greatest extent possible, get things done early and “clear the
clutter!” To that end, here are a few
simple reminders:
- Wrap up
those projects and papers early, and avoid the last-minute crunch. It’s no fun
to be the last one working while your friends and most of your dorm celebrate
the beginning of their summer.
- Take a
study break or two, and gradually box up the stuff you’re leaving in San
Antonio. Get it out of your room and off of your mind. Trying to pack up everything in the last hour
before you leave won’t be much fun.
- When you
have a quiet moment, reflect on what went right over the past two semesters and
what things you would like to change when you return in August. Setting your expectations for Year 2 will
give you an idea of how best to complete any early preparations before you
depart for your well-deserved summer break.
Before you depart
dear old TU this month, take a careful look around campus, and take notice of
all of the Trinity heroes working hard every day around you. Remember to thank
them for all of that they contribute to making Trinity so special. They are in offices, in golf carts, behind
counters, in the dorms and spread across our beautiful campus, but they often
go unnoticed. They feed you, protect
you, care for the campus, organize your activities and provide all of those
things that keep your college world running. So as you finish the semester and say your
good-byes, make a special effort to show your appreciation for their hard work.
We hope
we’ll see you on campus before you go, maybe at the midnight breakfast on May 6th. And when we get a chance to talk, let us know
the kinds of things you might like to do or get involved with next year. Good luck with your final exams, have a
wonderful summer, and we’ll see you in August!
