This
is the month that things begin to even out; by now you’ve mastered the
balancing act between academics, recreation and your social life, right?! Well… we hope things are rolling along
smoothly for you, but if you need help don’t hesitate to seek assistance
through your professors, your mentors, the ResLife staff and all of the rest of
Trinity team here to support you, including us. November is also a month to
take time to give thanks for all that we have. If you’re looking for a service
opportunity, the Thanksgiving season is a busy time for organizations like the San Antonio Food
Bank.
Look for more information posted around campus for ways to take a break from
your academic demands and use a little of your free time to assist local
organizations to help others.
November
is a culturally rich and seasonally busy month here. There is plenty going on
around town, beginning on the 1st & 2nd with the El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebrations in La Villita’s
Maverick Plaza, Arneson River Theatre and Plaza Juarez with entertainment,
activities, food booths and more.
There’s also the San Antonio Diwali
Festival of Lights
on the 2nd in Hemisfair Park (fountain area). A few other downtown events include The Rock
& Roll Marathon on the 17th,
and November 29th is San Antonio’s official start to the
holiday season with the Tree Lighting
Ceremony and Holiday River Parade.
Please
remember that November 11th is Veterans Day, a day to honor
and thank all who served in the United States Armed Forces. Take some time to
visit the marker in memory of Thomas D. Chenault
’69
, located near the flagpoles on the
northeast corner of Northrup Hall, dedicated on Veteran’s Day 1985. San
Antonio’s 2013 Veteran’s Day observation is on November 9th, and
includes a Wreath Ceremony in front of the Alamo with the parade to follow at
noon. There is also a Veteran’s Day 5K Run on the afternoon
of 11th out at McAllister Park.
Even if your busy schedule doesn’t allow attending these external
events, we hope that you’ll look for veterans among the folks you interact with
every day on and off campus, and take a moment on Veterans Day to tell them
that we all appreciate their contributions.
Last, and most important, if you’re travelling
over the Thanksgiving break, please have a smart plan and a
reasonable schedule to get there and RETURN SAFELY! We want you back on campus after the holiday,
well rested and ready for December. We’re so thankful for the opportunity to
meet you and participate in your Trinity activities. Keep having fun, and when
you see us on campus please stop us and tell us all about what’s going on in
the lives of the Class of 2017!
