We
hope the new semester is off to a great start for all of you. As you settle
into your spring classes and activities, here are some important February dates
to remember that will impact your sophomore year. Yep, it’s already time to
start thinking about next Fall. Next
year you will be a part of Sophomore College, and there are some options to
consider this month that are in keeping with the SoCol core tenants, what Andrew Hoing refers to as
living by the “five S's”: Social Connections, Service, Study Abroad, Social
Awareness, and Selecting a Major. The
first important date is Feb 6th, the due date for ResLife
applications to be a Resident Mentor (RM) next
semester. Second, you’ll need to decide
by the end of the month if you are interested in applying to be a part of
Trinity’s award-winning Hope Hall next semester. Next year will be the Murchison Hall
program’s third year, and there are plenty of Hope Hall openings for this
unique pairing of service opportunities with the best dorm location and some of
the most spacious rooms on campus. All applications will be considered; talk to
current Hope Hall residents and ask them what it’s all about. So give serious consideration to being an RM
or a Hope Hall member as a part of your SoCol experience.
So
what’s going on in February off campus? One word: RODEO! The San Antonio
Stock Show & Rodeo has grown to be one of the largest events in San Antonio
with over one and a half million visitors entering the grounds each
year. It runs February 6th
through 23rd, with events & attractions open every day and entertainers performing
throughout the 18 days. There are also
carnival rides, all kinds of food and a wide variety of activities for all
interests and ages. If you’ve never seen a rodeo or visited a livestock
exhibition, this is one to see! Grab some friends and head over to the AT&T
Center. On campus this month you’ve got the Chocolate Festival on February 14th
at 2:30 pm on the Esplanade. The festival features free chocolate for all
students, staff, and faculty as well as a competition between the student
organizations. Keep enjoying the semester, and keep your eyes (and your noses)
open at the end of the month for the first Texas mountain
laurel
blooms that turn the campus into a sea of purple blossoms and fill the air with
the scent of grape Sweet Tarts candy (some say the scent is like grape
Kool-Aid, but that’s just crazy-talk!). And when you see us each on campus
sniffing those flowers please stop us for a chat, and tell us what’s going on
in the lives of the Class of 2017.
