Class Marshal - December 2014

Hard to believe but the fall semester of your sophomore year is nearing its end! And that means once again a slog through Finals Week.

Finals run from December 12-18. Reading days are December 10 and 11. You know this drill already, and you should have some habits set now as to how to best manage the stress of these exams. But, let me add just a few suggestions. My biggest trick during finals was to be sure to get adequate sleep, especially the night before an important final exam. I can’t imagine anything worse that being bleary-eyed and sleepy during a final. I have seen this in my students many times and none of them do well. So try to sleep!

Another important strategy is finding a quiet place to study. You have probably explored the library and CSI and other campus locations for their best study spots. But you might want to consider going to a coffee shop for a nice quiet break. I hate to even mention my new favorite, but Rosella’s on Jones is a short drive from campus, great coffee, delicious treats from Bakery Lorraine, and it’s nice and quiet!

Lastly, if the stress is really getting to you, be sure to take advantage of Counseling Services in Coates. These professionals are fantastic, and can offer assistance and a calming voice. Their phone number is 7411.

I hope you all have had a great semester. Enjoy your winter break – relax and maybe enjoy some snow! We’ll see you all again in 2015! Happy New Year!
