April
means that spring is officially here, and we don’t need to tell you that it’s
the crunch month for the semester. Along
with studying, completing papers and finishing projects you should also wrap up
any plans for summer internships. There is some great help available through
several Trinity websites. Check out
Trinity Career Services’ Internship Planning page, Internship USA and Internship.com as well as specific academic areas such as Business Administration, Sociology/Anthropology, Economics, Sport Management and several other
departments, all available through the Trinity website.
The
biggest April event off campus is Fiesta San Antonio with events April
10th through 27th.
There are too many activities to list them all, so check out the event schedule. Two of our favorites are A Night In Old San
Antonio or “NIOSA” to the locals, and the Texas Cavaliers River Parade.
NIOSA
takes place in the historic downtown village of La Villita and celebrates the
city’s unique heritage. More than 240 elaborately decorated food and drink
booths and more than a dozen nonstop entertainment stages represent the diverse
San Antonio cultures and customs in 15 heritage-themed areas. NIOSA is the
largest historic preservation festival in the nation and provides resources for
the San Antonio Conservation Society’s mission for the restoration and rehabilitation
of historic properties in the San Antonio area. Apr 22nd – 25th,
5:30 - 10:30 p.m.
Each
year the River Parade draws thousands of people from all over, lining the banks
of the San Antonio River to view one of the most unusual parades in the
country. More than 40 decorated floats sponsored by local community
organizations and military installations drift down the San Antonio River. Spectators celebrate up and down the river to
the accompaniment of singers, musicians and live bands. King Antonio XCI reigns
over the evening’s festivities and gives a Texas-sized welcome to the
enthusiastic spectators along the winding route. Apr 21st, 7 - 9:30 p.m.
So
find the Fiesta event that appeals to you; maybe try a 10K run, catch a parade or take an evening
break for food & fun!
We know that you’ve now become comfortable in
your new home town and surrounding area, enough to get out and enjoy all that
San Antonio and South Texas have to offer. When you’re driving around town in
the evenings or travelling any distance this month, please have a smart plan
and a reasonable schedule to get there and return safely to campus. If anyone in your group is consuming alcohol always
use a designated driver. And please
remember that fatigue can be as big of impairment to driving as intoxication,
so plan your trips with enough time to return at a reasonable hour driving only
when you’re well rested and alert. See
you around campus!
